Institute Schedule
Classes and Activities:
Our in-person classes will focus on using high-impact practices to teach Shakespeare to high school students, as well as best practices for using various adaptations to illuminate themes raised in the play and include pedagogy workshops focused on adaptations. Our lessons, pedagogy workshops, and teaching demonstrations will illustrate how to build students’ understanding of Shakespeare’s tragedies by analyzing how a range of authors and media creators have responded to them.
Class sessions will be held Monday-Friday mornings and afternoons, with a break for lunch. Late afternoons and early evenings will include free time to read secondary materials, review the primary texts, and work on lesson plans and teaching demonstrations. Sessions will be facilitated by experts in Shakespeare studies and adaptations studies.

Participants will have access to Weber's Digital District, which provides coordinated teaching and learning spaces equipped with innovative technology, tools, and support services. The district fosters an environment where people can consume information, collaborate with others, and create content. Resources of the Digital District include technology-enhanced collaboration spaces, a recording studio, and a podcast studio.

The program will include a trip to the Utah Shakespeare Festival for a live performance and a workshop for educators. There will also be optional social activities for participants in the afternoons and evenings, including small-group dinner discussions with seminar leaders at local restaurants. Because the area surrounding Weber State University is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, we will also include an optional afternoon hike to see a local waterfall. |
A more detailed schedule will be forthcoming as we get closer to the Institute.
